See how to get involved in Ladyfest Brighton!
Ladyfest Brighton is a non-profit D.I.Y. festival
taking place in various venues around Brighton on the
20th-23rd October 2005.
Organised primarily by women
for the benefit of the wider community, Ladyfest
Brighton will showcase performances by bands, visual
artists, fashion designers, writers, film-makers,
dancers, zine creators, teachers, students and activists.
Ladyfest first took place in Olympia,
Washington in 2000, and since then it has spead to over 50
cities world-wide.
Ladyfest Brighton joins a global movement of young women promoting women and queer
based projects, arts and activism in their communities.
The principle is simple: a group of volunteers come
together and plan a four-day festival encompassing
workshops, education, networking, the discussion of politics, and
reclaiming culture from mega-corporate interest.
Ladyfest is all about creating an alternative kind of
space; friendly, non-cliquey events where people
can can come together, have a great time, and
celebrate the diversity and strength of female talent across the arts.
We aim to make women's work in the arts and creative industries, more visible. We aim to promote and encourage
activity and activism over apathy.
We hope to introduce and encourage more women to creativley express themselves, to get involved in their communities and to develop
leadership qualities.
