A
Room of One's Own Virginia Woolf
(ISBN: 0192834843)
Encouraging men and women to shrug off their sex and write
androgynously in order to find the proper reality of things, Woolf
argues that gender-roles are a public death sentence on creativity. Her
predictions for the future for Women in the arts is a spookily accurate
forecast.

Laugh of the Medusa Helene
Cixous (ISBN: ??)
An essay trying to determine how Women can write within a patriarchal
language system
The
Beauty Myth Naomi Wolf (ISBN:
0099861909)
An enlightening read that high-lights the damaging nature of gender
roles. Much controversy over whether Wolf is encouraging a new breed of
"paranoid feminism" or a liberated body-image. A must read for anyone
who has suffered from or has been touched by an eating disorder.

identity like the Punk (or hardcore) movement. Interesting ideas on
resisting gender roles.
